Rock Gabion Fence
We needed to build a fence in Lake County, enclosing about 3.5 acres. The ground was so rocky that I was unable to drive in a steel T-post, let alone 4x4s for H-braces. A solution was born that not only allowed the installation of the fencing, but also to act as a rock repository for future clearing and building projects.
The gabion is not new technology. I thought I had a truly original idea. When I was about halfway through, my neighbor told me that’s how he built fences in Utah! The idea was had by thinking in a permaculture mindset: making systems that have more than one purpose and create flow. This project was extremely hard work, and hugely satisfying to work on and complete.
